Two days after the launch of new KontrolFreek® Call of Duty® Black Ops III Jugger-Nog, and the KontrolFreek offices are still buzzing! Call of Duty fans have made this the biggest launch in KontrolFreek history.

While we’re feeling all the Jugger-Nog love this week, we sat down with our creative director, Brandon Turney, to talk about how he designed the Jugger-Nog thumbsticks. (Pro Tip: If you haven’t gotten your pair yet, you can always submit a photo in our Zombie Face-Off contest for the chance to win Jugger-Nog thumbsticks and other prizes.)

Q: How is Jugger-Nog different from other KontrolFreek designs?
A: Aside from the Jugger-Nog being another in our line-up of products created in collaboration with Activision, it’s the first product that has a completely flat top, and the first time we’ve ever experimented with designing the sides of the thumbsticks. That’s what makes the bottlecap effect.

Q: Tell us about the design process for Jugger-Nog.
A: The first thing we did with Jugger-Nog was talk with Call of Duty and Treyarch. They know their brand inside and out, and once we talked with them, we knew we had to do the bottle-cap design. Once we had the concept, I just started sketching with a pencil and paper, and took it from there.

Next, I played around with color options. Working with Activision, I came across the burnt-red color and loved how it popped on the screen. When we sent the mock-ups to Activision, they accepted them immediately, and the Jugger-Nog was born!

Q: What was it like working with Activision?
A: Honestly, it was great. They were so supportive of the thumbstick design. We worked closely with them not just on the thumbstick, but also on the Jugger-Nog packaging. We wanted to nail that iconic Jugger-Nog, Perk-a-Cola refrigerator feel, so we collabrated with them to find the iconic design that Call of Duty fans are so familiar with. When it all came together and I was holding the actual product in my hands, I knew we’d captured the spirit of Zombies and Jugger-Nog, which is what we set out to do.

Q: Can you tell us anything about future designs?
A: Wouldn’t you like to know! Just kidding. You can look out for some more color options in the future, and I’m currently working on a new take on an old KontrolFreek bestseller, so keep an eye out for that.

Q: Anything else you want to say?
A: I’m so excited to see Jugger-Nog in people’s hands. I really hope they enjoy them as much as I’ve loved bringing them to life.
